On a personal note, I recently achieved my green belt at Krav Maga, about halfway to black belt.
Krav Maga (pronounced "Kraav M'gaa") is a self-defence system that focuses on practical techniques drawn from a wide variety of martial arts. Used by Israeli Defence Forces and various law enforcement and military organizations worldwide, Krav Maga is known for its focus on real-world situations and efficient counter-attacks. It includes fitness, unarmed combat, knife and gun disarms, and grappling techniques. Anyone, regardless of age, gender and fitness level can learn it quickly and use it successfully. It is perfectly suited for women and teenagers. We train Monday and Thursday evenings in Paulshof. Interested? Contact details on the left.
A money-saving tip: If you shop at Checkers in Rivonia Village, you get one hour's free parking. Along with your till slip, they print out a bar-coded slip that you can scan at the parking machines, and avoid the ridiculous parking charges that start after 15 minutes.

This was Transformers Toastmasters' Induction Dinner so their downstairs private "Cellar" was chock-a-block with celebration! I chose the Calamari in Napolitana sauce, which was a mistake. The sauce was hideously sweet, so I returned it and then was given calamari drenched in salt. Back it went again to be replaced with plain grilled calamari, which was edible. Rick ordered Beef Lasagne, which he declared good although lacking in extra parmesan. Rick enjoyed his hot chocolate and I enjoyed my white wine.
Comfort was a great waiter, who thoroughly deserved all accolades and his tip. A real improvement is the addition of toilets downstairs, which helped me no end. Great venue for a party!

DOUBLE-DUTY SALADS. Mary’s tip about turning leftover salad into soup (What To Do with Leftover Salad) is genius. My Greek salad from a recent dinner did not end up in the disposal. Instead, it crossed the Mediterranean and changed nationalities—becoming gazpacho (a cold Spanish/Portuguese tomato-based raw vegetable soup) the next night. I did what Mary suggested, tossing the leftovers in the blender and adding a little juice. --Betsy.
CLEANS MORE THAN BRAKES. I have found that using my husband’s brake parts spray cleaner (there are many) works really well for getting out grease stains. It doesn’t affect the colour and works when other stain removers have failed, even if the item has already been washed and dried. --Cam.
(You should always, without fail, test any stain treatment in an inconspicuous place first to make sure your fabric is colourfast. These days, most are but please, do not assume anything. --Mary)
QUICK TICK REMOVER. When my little ones get a tick while playing outdoors, I easily and painlessly remove it with a cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol. I place the cotton ball where the tick’s head appears, and the tick backs out. It’s fairly quick and definitely painless. --Dena.
