What is megaplex.co.za and How do I Get Listed?

www.megaplex.co.za is the world's largest and most detailed web site of useful information about shops, restaurants and other businesses in Sandton and Bryanston.  Sounds silly, doesn't it?  It's not: It's the niche market for your neighbourhood, where you get seen by potential customers searching the web.

We cover Benmore Gardens, Bryanston, Buccleuch, Kelvin, Morningside, Morningside Manor, Gallo Manor, Rivonia, Petervale, Sunninghill, Hurlingham Manor, Wendywood, and Woodmead.  Our July 2010 Alexa website rank was in the top 3.61%, above Sandton City, Woodmead Retail Park, and Benmore Gardens Shopping Centre.  Pages on the Megaplex site do very well on searches for shopping in Sandton.

Visit our web page for your centre (see column on the left) and check your listing. The basic free entry is a 25-word description. You can add to or change this: Expanded listings are charged for at a rate of R25 + VAT per month per extra 25 words or part thereof, or R250 + VAT per year paid in advance.

If you are not listed, or to modify your listing, e-mail us now with the revised listing and all your contact details.

There is no charge for listing your contact details including Telephone number, Cell number, fax, e-mail address, and web site address. You get 25 words of description free.  If you do not have a web page of your own, read on...

Can I Advertise on megaplex.co.za?

Yes!  You can display banner or column adverts, on most of the pages on our site.

Each page has a column of adverts approximately 50 mm wide (200 pixels) down the left- or right-hand edge. Older pages have the column on the left, newer ones have it on the right.
It also has banner adverts the width of the main text and a maximum of 20 mm high .

You can include text and small pictures in both kinds of adverts.  Examples appear on the left and below.

What's The Cost on the web site?

The rates per advert (on one page) for one year are:

Banner adverts (except top banner): R500 each on any web page.
Top-of-page banner (only one on each page!) costs double.

Column: A square advert costs the same as a banner.  Taller or shorter adverts cost proportionately more or less.  You can't get the top column advert on a page, it's reserved for our Subscription box.

Prices exclude VAT and are to be paid in advance.

You may advertise on any pages, at our discretion, on a first-come, first-served basis.  You might prefer to advertise on your own centre's page, or even on pages of other centres where there are competing shops and you do not have a "smalls" listing.

Visitors to this site are invited to opt-in to the newsletter, and many do.

Now you can advertise in the newsletter and reach upwards of 6000 qualified leads.

To see previous issues of the newsletter, click here (new pages): All Newsletters 2009-date, January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.

What's Available?

The newsletter has a column of adverts approximately 50 mm wide (200 pixels) down the left-hand edge.
It also has banners maximum 20 mm high and the width of the main text, in between sections.

You can include text and small pictures in both kinds of adverts.  Examples appear on the left and directly below.

What's The Cost in the Newsletter?

Banner adverts: R250 + VAT per banner per issue.
Left-hand column: A square advert (200 x 200 pixels, about 50 mm square) costs the same as a banner.  Other heights are priced in proportion, e.g. A Column Advert 400 pixels high would cost double.
Premium for top of column and top banner (only one of each!): R250 + VAT.
The minimum booking is for two consecutive issues (a single entry is not effective).
Quoted prices exclude VAT and are to be paid in advance of publication.

Save 10%: Book and pay for a four-month run and get 10% off the above prices. Save 20% on a six-month run, 33.3% off for a year!

Deadlines

The newsletter generally goes out around the first Friday of the month.  The date may be adjusted due to public holidays and other events.

Your deadlines can be worked out as follows:

  • For booking and payment – 17:00 on the last Friday of the previous month.
  • For final copy and graphics – 17:00 on the following Wednesday.

Sample Sizes:

<<< For Column Adverts, see samples on left. e.g. "A Web Page for only R250 + VAT a Month?": That is approximately square, and hence would cost R250 + VAT per advert per newsletter if not the top advert, or R250 + VAT per advert per issue for top column advert.

For Banner Adverts, see Sample below (Guide Dogs for the Blind):

Technical Notes: Banners

Banners are best done as text, possibly with some small graphics.  This allows the banner to stretch to the page width, for example the two below:

Please Give R10 to Guide Dogs for the Blind!  SMS 'see' to 38051

Banners must not exceed 20 mm high when viewed as above with the main text 150 mm wide (76 pixels high by 568 pixels wide at 96 x 96 pixels per inch) nor 18mm high when viewed as below with the main text 200 mm wide (68 pixels high by 758 pixels wide at 96 x 96 pixels per inch).  This generally allows for a small logo up to 68 pixels high, a headline of up to ten words, and two lines of text comprising 25-30 words.

Please Give R10 to Guide Dogs for the Blind!  SMS 'see' to 38051

If you want to do the whole banner as a graphic (not recommended), the size can be up to 15 cm wide by 2 cm high (that is 480 x 64 pixels at 81 x 81 pixels per inch (a resolution that we can edit if necessary), or 570 x 76 pixels at 96 x 96 pixels per inch (preferred)).  Loose pictures, like those above, should not exceed 70 pixels in height and should be in JPG or GIF format.

Note: Graphics larger than 5 KB in size will not be packaged with the newsletter e-mail, but will be loaded on our web site.  If the recipient blocks graphics, they will then not appear in the e-mail; instead a message will ask the user to right-click if they want to download graphics (they might not!).

What Else?

The newsletter will remain on www.megaplex.co.za for at least a year, with your advert generating ongoing business for you.

A Web Page for R500? Are we Insane?

How many of your problems could be solved if you had more money?  If you had more customers in your business, would that bring in more money?  So how can you get more customers?

The fastest-growing advertising medium today is the Internet.  Right now, people are searching on-line for the products and services that you offer.  Will they find you –or your competitors?

YOUR SHOP can now have an effective web presence for just R500 + VAT a month.

A web site could easily cost you R20,000.  So what are we doing?

We're offering a basic web page.  Just a page, not a site (many pages).  It has no fancy moving pictures.  It does not use Flash, PHP or Python.  It does not play a tune when you open it, or have a sexy voice announcing your products to the viewer's whole office.  That would be complicated.  It would take time.  It could also cost you a truckload of money.  And here's the rub: It would be useless!

Pretty pictures, things that pop up when you mouse over them, animation, audio, video, all mean nothing  to Google.  Google is the search engine used by most (68%) internet users.  Google is interested only in words..

We keep it simple.  We put in a few pictures for interest's sake, but what we craft is text.  Words.  The right words.  Key words that are relevant to your business, so Google will love your page and show it near the top.  That means: More people will see it, more people will click on it, more people will go to your page.  Result?  More business for you!

We will build you a web page on the megaplex site, equivalent in content to two A4 sheets, for only R500 + VAT per month or R5000 + VAT per year paid in advance.  You can have up to four pictures on it and change it once a month when it is up and running.

With this comes a link from a shopping centre or area page on the site.  Pages on the Megaplex site rank very well on searches for shopping in Sandton, so we believe that other pages on the site will also get a boost as a result.

e-mail us now and have your business on the internet within a week!

Case Study I

Visit Google South Africa and search for "Sandton Vet".  Our page for Rivonia Village Veterinary Clinic comes up in second place, after the Business Listing of the Vets in Sandton.  How many Vets are there in Sandton?  Lots!  We can't promise the same results for you overnight (this page has been up since October 2008) but one thing's for sure: It can only improve your business!

How many new customers would you need to cover R500 + VAT a month?  If you're an accountant like Steve, one a month is plenty.  If, like Raffaele, you do pizzas, it might be several but, if you satisfy them, you have a customer for life –and how many pizzas does one family buy in a lifetime?  (I have a soft spot for Steve: He replied to my first marketing e-mail saying "Are You Insane?", which I've used as my title above)

The trick is to get started.  Start getting a ranking on Google.  It takes time.  The next vet to put up a web site (or page) is going to have to fight his way up past Rivonia Village Vet in the rankings, which means he will have to try harder.  So reply to this proposal now and let's get going!

As a matter of interest, Rivonia Village Veterinary Clinic was so happy with their results that they postponed getting a separate site of their own –and now that they have their own site, it still ranks under our page for them!

Case Study II

At the end of May 2010, Jan of Perfect10 Woodmead contacted us about a paid-for web page for his nail and body studio. We gave him a first cut of the page to look at on 6 June and went live on 23 June. We expected it to take months to make the front page of Google.  To our delight, only three weeks later on 16 July when we did some test searches, it got top spot on Google for "Woodmead manicure" and "Woodmead pedicure".  The page also hit 2nd place for "Nails Woodmead" (just under the list of Perfect 10 franchises) and "beauty Woodmead".  Jan immediately started getting custom from the page and has ever since said we can use him as a reference. He retired a while ago, but his successor continued to use us. May we do a similar page for your business?
