This regional
shopping centre is on Rivonia Boulevard
across Ninth Avenue from the Rivonia Village Shops in central Rivonia.
Prominent tenants are a good Pick 'n Pay, Rivonia Post Office, the News Cafι,
Truworths, and two other restaurants. The centre was
previously called The Cloisters (it was built on the site of a Carmelite Convent). A
revamp in 2007 left a
light, airy, pleasant centre that customers are now re-discovering.
There are
1000 parking bays on five levels. Parking is free for the first
1½ hours (an
hour more than at Rivonia Village), R4
for two hours, R6 for three hours, etc. The parking entrances are on 9th Ave and Wessels Road.
You pay for parking at machines at the
pedestrian entrances to the parking (the machine does not stamp the ticket, it
just scans the barcode), then present the ticket
to the machine controlling the boom at the parking exits on levels 1 or 2, and take the ticket back
once the bar code has been scanned. If you are stuck, there is a parking
office manned by humans at the exit on Parking Level 2. Delinquents who
can afford the R500 fine park in the "no stopping" tow-away zone on Rivonia Boulevard to show off their fancy vehicles.
To get there, you would probably travel along Rivonia Road. From the N1
Motorway, take the Rivonia off-ramp and turn South (towards central Sandton).
From central Sandton, travel north on Rivonia Road. Turn east (the only
direction possible) at the Ninth Avenue T-junction and the centre will be one
block further on your left starting with News Cafe, with the underground parking
entrance down the hill near the end of the block.
