Do You Use Excel?  Making Mistakes is Easy!

Finding errors is hard! But they can kill your company! In 2012, a London Olympics employee accidentally typed in “20,000” instead of “10,000". The Olympic Committee then sold 10,000 tickets for non-existent seats at minor events. They had to upgrade them to major events —at a loss. Get this FREE report on preventing Excel mistakes..

With a heavy heart, we turn off the lights at The Barnyard Theatre Rivonia

From the undated Barnyard Theatre webpage:

The repercussions of Covid-19 on our industry and our business has been devastating and beyond our control.

Unfortunately, due to this tough economic pressure, we have had to close the doors to our beautiful Rivonia Barnyard Theatre to make way for retail space. We were forced to make this decision in order to sustain our 5 remaining Barnyard venues and keep entertainment alive in South Africa.

We would like to thank all our fans for the unforgettable memories we experienced together at Rivonia Barnyard and our dedicated and loyal staff for 8 years of exceptional service and entertainment.

The Barnyard Theatre is the biggest employer of local artists in our country and we are focused on
sustaining the industry and keeping the doors of entertainment open at our 5 remaining Barnyard Theatres -
Silverstar BarnyardEmperors Palace BarnyardMenlyn BarnyardSuncoast Barnyard and Tyger Valley Barnyard

We would love to host you in the future at our remaining theatres and would really appreciate your support.

The POPI Act (POPIA) is About to Become YOUR Problem...

The Protection of Personal Information Act. AKA the POPI Act, or POPIA, goes live on 1 July 2021.  That is only 63 days from now.

It applies to everybody who holds data on other people.  Do you have an email list on your laptop?  A list of phone numbers on your phone?  Then it applies to YOU.

Say your laptop is stolen. Say you lose your cell phone. If you did not take "adequate" measures to protect that personal information, you can be liable for R10 million in fines or 10 years in jail.

If your laptop is missing, or if your cell phone is lost, how will you prove you took "adequate" measures? Nice Catch-22.

Here's a free course that tells you what the law says –in plain English.
It's as long as a typical evening seminar, but online.

Go here for more information and to sign up: Free Online POPI Act Training.

Did we mention that there's no charge for it?

If you would prefer a live webinar –also gratis– Click here to join the POPI Compliance Webinar by small business POPI expert Peter Carruthers.  It's online this Wednesday, at 8 pm SA Time. You will understand what you need to do to comply - within 60 minutes. It's simpler than it seems.

Thought for the Day:

People say that Rap music is under-appreciated.  Personally, I think it isn't under-appreciated enough.

Funny Language, English...

Shouldn't "thinners" be something you take to lose weight?

Should William Nicol Drive be Renamed to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Drive?

Considering the current economic crisis, should government be spending taxpayers’ money on renaming of Cities, Towns and Roads?

Executive Mayor Cllr Geoffrey Makhubo announced that the City of Joburg has started a public consultative drive to have William Nicol Drive in the north of Joburg renamed to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Drive.

To a much greater degree than her former husband, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was a controversial figure. While some remember her as the "mother of the nation" and a struggle icon who was cruelly treated by the Apartheid regime, others recall her part in the murder of Stompie Sepei and her willingness to torture and kill those who disagreed with her: "With our necklaces and our boxes of matches we will 'liberate' this country". Elected to the democratic Parliament as an MP, she spent hardly any time there, effectively committing fraud by taking a salary while not doing the work for which she was paid.

Renaming William Nicol Drive in her honour will have a divisive effect and not help to unify the nation. It will be a much longer, more cumbersome name.  How can it be afforded by a city that (apparently) cannot fix potholes or cut the verges –except at election time?  One must consider, not just the cost to the city, but the expense to thousands of businesses that will have to change their stationery, their CIPC details, websites, et al.  Businesses are struggling: We are in a pandemic, in case the City has not noticed.

Please voice your thoughts by 30 April 2021, which will be presented to the City.

Your input through the Dear South Africa platform creates impact by legally influencing government decisions BEFORE implementation. This is not a petition. It is a mandated policy formation process which government is legally obliged to follow. We deliver your input immediately to government and we record indisputable evidence of all public participation (required for a legal challenge, if necessary). Mass participation is essential. PLEASE HAVE YOUR SAY NOW. Your voice matters.

Like to Pay for Covid Claims?

Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma invites you to comment on the CoVid-19 Vaccine Injury No-Fault Compensation Scheme. The Scheme proposes to establish a taxpayer-funded compensation fund for persons who suffer vaccine injury as a result of a Covid19 vaccine. The Scheme shifts a claim from the vaccine manufacturer to the taxpayer.

The Minister published the proposal on 15 April, providing only four days, over a weekend, for public comment – Dear SA's legal team has demanded an extension of three weeks. Given the likelihood of a court case, it is extremely urgent that you and your contacts have a say at the link here.
